Papi & Laado

Venture Builder

We partner hands-on with startups to design, build, and scale ventures that serve the Kingdom. From first principles to market readiness, we move with structure, discipline, and national intent.

Our Process

Purpose

To determine how and why a venture comes into conversation with Papi & Laado.

Explanation

Ventures may approach Papi & Laado directly, be identified through ecosystem observation, or be referred by institutions. Entry does not imply acceptance. It begins a conversation to understand intent, context, and relevance before any commitment is made.

Example

A founder building a logistics platform approaches P&L after operating informally with SME clients in Madinah. Separately, P&L has already observed policy movement in last-mile logistics, prompting an initial discussion from both sides.

Purpose

To decide whether the venture should proceed at all.

Explanation

Papi & Laado assesses national relevance, founder maturity, problem legitimacy, structural feasibility, and alignment with National Sense of Responsibility. This phase protects founders, institutions, and the ecosystem from premature or misaligned ventures.

Example

A fintech idea shows strong technical capability but depends on regulatory shortcuts and short-term arbitrage. Despite investor interest, the venture is declined and redirected toward a different, compliant application.

Decline or redirect if misaligned

Purpose

To design the venture before building anything.

Explanation

The venture's purpose, stakeholders, operating logic, and regulatory path are defined. Assumptions are challenged early. The goal is clarity, not speed.

Example

An education platform is redesigned from a consumer app into a B2B solution aligned with national skills programmes after stakeholder mapping reveals stronger institutional demand.

Purpose

To form the venture correctly and build only what is required.

Explanation

Legal structure, licensing, governance, and a minimal operational product are established. The focus is on correctness and accountability rather than feature breadth.

Example

A health services venture launches with a limited pilot under the correct regulatory licence, serving one region and one use case rather than scaling prematurely across cities.

Purpose

To test reality, not ambition.

Explanation

Real users, real payments, and real operations are observed. Unit economics, adoption behaviour, and operational strain are assessed honestly.

Example

A property technology platform finds strong interest but low conversion due to trust concerns. The model is adjusted to include institutional guarantees before proceeding further.

Pause or redesign if assumptions fail

Purpose

To decide whether scaling is responsible and sustainable.

Explanation

Organisational capacity, leadership depth, capital discipline, and partnership readiness are evaluated. Growth is considered only if structure can support it.

Example

Rather than raising capital immediately, a services venture strengthens management and reporting systems to handle future institutional clients.

Purpose

To ensure the venture can stand independently.

Explanation

Founders assume full operational ownership. Papi & Laado steps back while remaining available as a strategic steward where appropriate.

Example

After two years, a venture operating across multiple regions transitions fully to its internal leadership team, maintaining governance standards established during venture building.
